Locum GP Software and Apps: Which Fits You

GP Locum App, Locum Organiser, My Locum Manager and NASGP's LocumDeck, plus a spreadsheet or an accountant, set out by the situation each one suits. Written for GPs new to locum work.

Before you read this: I built GP Locum App, one of the options below. I'm also a NASGP ambassador, so I may earn a commission if you join NASGP through the link on its card. Joining through my link doesn't change what you pay, and I don't speak for NASGP. I have no relationship with Locum Organiser or My Locum Manager, and I earn nothing if you choose a spreadsheet or an accountant.

Every fact below is taken from the provider's own pages or from GOV.UK, with the date I checked it. Where a provider doesn't say, the page says not confirmed rather than guessing. How this site is funded.

What the admin involves

Whatever you use, the same jobs come round every month:

  • A diary of your sessions, with each practice and its fee
  • Invoices, with the pension lines shown separately if you pension the work
  • Form A for each practice and a Form B each month, with both contributions paid to PCSE by the 7th
  • Expenses and mileage, kept for your tax return
  • Setting aside for tax, because nobody takes it off at source
  • Making Tax Digital quarterly updates, once your qualifying income passes the threshold: £50,000 now, £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028

Some of the options below also help you find work, which changes what you are comparing. The getting started checklist covers each job in more detail.

Side by side

On a phone, the table scrolls sideways. Not confirmed means the provider doesn't say on its own pages, not that it can't do it.

Which fits you

You'd like practices to find you, with the admin built in

NASGP's LocumDeck is a booking platform first: you share your availability and terms, and practices book you directly. Invoicing and pension forms come with it. Locum Organiser also lets you apply for Lantum sessions from its diary.

You find your own work and want the admin in one place

GP Locum App, Locum Organiser and My Locum Manager all build your invoices and pension forms from the sessions you add. The differences are mostly price, the length of the free trial, and how you would use it day to day, so try the one that suits how you work.

You want an app on an Android phone

When I checked on 8 October 2026, GP Locum App was the only one of these with an app on Google Play. Locum Organiser and LocumDeck say they work in a phone's browser.

Making Tax Digital will reach you soon

Check how the quarterly updates will reach HMRC. GP Locum App prepares the figures and a file for bridging software, but doesn't send them itself. LocumDeck produces quarterly spreadsheets that work with 123 Sheets bridging software, NASGP's Making Tax Digital partner. Locum Organiser and My Locum Manager don't say on their own pages, so ask them. The Making Tax Digital guide explains the deadlines and the ways of filing.

You want to spend as little as possible

A spreadsheet costs nothing, and this site's free invoice generator and pension forms tool do the two fiddliest documents. When Making Tax Digital applies to you, bridging software sends the quarterly updates from the spreadsheet. The cost is your time each month.

You'd rather not do it yourself

An accountant can keep your books and send the quarterly updates as your agent. You still have to record your sessions and keep your receipts, and you can use an accountant alongside any of the tools above.

The options

Software first, in alphabetical order, then the two options that aren't software. Each card has the same fields.

Before you sign up

  • Note when the free trial ends, and whether you gave card or bank details to start it, so you know what happens on the last day.
  • Find out how to get your data out, as a spreadsheet or PDFs, before you put a year of sessions in.
  • Ask what happens to invoices and pension forms you've already made if you stop paying.
  • Check how a Form A reaches the practice and PCSE: through PCSE Online, by email, or on paper.
  • Keep the subscription receipts. Software for your locum work is an allowable business expense.

A note on advice

This guide is general information about software and services for locum GPs. It is not tax, financial or legal advice, and it is not a recommendation of any one option over another. Prices and features change: check the provider's own page before you sign up.
